A poem of morning, and of night

Looking through one of the Methodist hymnals, I really saw a trend in song titles. Some of them can be pretty funny. But some struck me that together they could be a poem, or a prayer. So I pieced them together, and I came up with first a morning prayer, and then one for night.

Wake, Awake, for Night is flying,
Rise to greet the sun.
O splendor of God’s glory bright,
My Lord, What a morning.
Arise, shine out, Your light has come,
O, Day of God, draw nigh.

The day is past and over,
O gladsome light,
Now, on land and sea descending,
Day is dying in the west.
God, that madest earth and heaven,
Creator of the stars of night,
The day thou gavest, Lord, is ended,
At the close of day,
God of ages,
Abide in me.
